Features

  • Replace kitchen printers
  • Support 1 or more Prep KDS with at most 1 Expo KDS.
    • Normally the Prep KDS is linked with a non-touch monitor and a metal bump bar, while the Expo KDS is linked with a touch monitor.
  • Each food is assigned with one defined category.
  • Category is used to determine the food in which the KDS to be shown.
  • One food can only be shown in either one (Prep or Expo) KDS or two (Prep + Expo) KDS.
  • There are 6 or 8 cells in one page in KDS screen.
  • Each cell in the KDS can be set to show one food item or all food items in one order.
    • If the cell cannot show all food items in one order, it may be set to show a vertical bar in the cell or separate the food times into adjacent cells.
  • For the case of showing all food items from one order in one cell, if the KDS is with a non-touch monitor, it is only allowed to bump out the whole order with a metal bump bar; if the KDS is with a touch monitor, it is allowed to bump out each food item in the cell.
  • For the KDS with a non-touch monitor, it is only allowed to bump out the whole order if all food items in one order is shown in the one cell.
  • The KDS can show the history of food items recently bumped out.
  • The KDS can show the outstanding (not yet bumped out) food items from all orders in the summary mode.
  • Each cell shows the order number, the time elapsed, the food item name, the quantity, the order type (eat-in or take-away), the ticket number or the table number.
  • If the food is shown in the Prep and the Expo KDS, after the food is bumped from the Prep KDS, the color of the food shown in the Expo KDS will be changed (so that the chef will know the food is bumped/finished from the Prep KDS).
  • A serial 80mm thermal printer can be connected to the KDS.
  • Category is also used to determine if the food bumped out should be printed with the food paper.
  • The food bumped out (if carelessly) can be restored in the KDS.
  • The KDS can be easily used by the kitchen staff, so no training is needed to provide at all.
  • One Windows PC (IPB801A, Windows Embedded Standard 7) is needed. Our Dispatcher software will be installed on this PC. This software will act as a middleman between the POS and the KDS.
  • Optional: The Windows PC (IPB801A, Windows Embedded Standard 7) can also be used as a database server and a web server. The time when the order is found, the time when the food item is bumped, the time when the whole order is bumped and the time when the item is restored are recorded down in the database. Users can use a web browser to get the statistics/report about the preparation time of food items.

Integration with the POS

Approach 1

  • The POS software has to be modified such that it will generate a text file (according to the format we provided) for each order. The dispatcher software installed on IPB801A will read this file and the food items to the corresponding KDS(s).

Approach 2

  • The POS software has to be modified such that it will send commands (according to our protocol) to our KDS for each order.
